Critical that housing grant changes are approved

A number of changes to the housing grant schemes operated by Mayo County Council will be put before the elected members of the council when they next meet. At the Ballina Municipal District April meeting, director of services for Mayo County Council, Paul Benson, told the district members: “Housing grants are on the adjourned April agenda, hopefully we will get moving on that. We have approved grants up to December 2014. It’s important we do get the changes recommended through, because we are looking at currently being able to approve grants up to the end of February this year, and that’s it until probably next November unless we get changes.”

Western Development Commission leading new EU-funded project

Funding of €2m has just been announced for a new three-year project to support the creative industries sector in the Western Region. Creative Momentum will support and connect creative enterprises across the west of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland. The €2m in funding has been secured from the EU’s Northern Periphery and Arctic (NPA) Interreg programme.

The average rent for all dwellings let in County Westmeath in Q4 2014, and which were registered with the Private Residential Tenancies Board (PRTB), was €537. That was down €2 when compared to the prevailing average rent in Q4 2013, when the amount was €539.
